Kankakei Gorge

Gorgeous beauty created over 2 million years

The gorge stretches 7 kilometers from east to west and 4 kilometers from north to south between Hoshigajo and Uminohara Plateau.
The beauty of this valley, one of the most beautiful in Japan, has been designated as a national scenic beauty, and has been selected as one of the three most beautiful valleys in Japan, one of the three most bizarre sights in Japan, one of the 100 most scenic views in Japan, and one of the “100 Nature Scenes in Japan to be Preserved in the 21st Century”.

The rocks, which were deposited by volcanic activity approximately 13 million years ago, have been formed by repeated crustal movement and erosion by wind and rain, forming strange and bizarre rock formations.

The view from the ropeway, which runs through the large rock walls that soar vertically, is truly spectacular.
The view can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons: fresh greenery in spring, deep green in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and snow in winter.
